ST3 Holiday 2005

For the fourth year in a row, the tax man will give Georgians a break for a limited time for certain purchases.

The state's fourth consecutive sales tax holiday starts July 28 and ends at midnight July 31. Georgia shoppers can buy certain clothing items, schools supplies, computers and computer accessories without having to pay sales tax.

"Thanks to the tax free holiday, Georgians will find school supplies and other items more affordable," said Gov. Sonny Perdue. "Past experience shows that retail stores will also benefit from an increase in sales, helping local economies to prosper."

Georgia ended its fiscal 2005 year June 30 with an 8 percent increase in the amount of revenue it collected from various taxes.

It's back-to-school time again. Check the link in the title of this post for the details on what's exempt and what's not.

On this note, what do you think about sales tax? Is it good or bad? Should a higher, regulated sales tax replace the national income tax? Do you even think about it when you budget or purchase items?
